Purpose
My purpose in choosing to focus my final project on Alzheimer's disease to demonstrate the knowledge I have gained though Dr. Aizenman's course - Neuroscience in Action: Understanding Our Brains and Nervous Systems, is to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease in an interactive and easy-to-understand manner. I have always been passionate about neuroscience and taking this course has allowed me to expand on my previous knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and neurobiology. Throughout the 2015-2016 school year, I have conducted a year-long research study on the impacts of environmental factors on the development of Alzheimer's disease, leading to the publication of my final research paper as well as my presentation at the 2016 Student Learning Conference at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. I then decided to continue my research in the field of neuroscience in my upcoming internship during the 2016-2017 at the University of Maryland Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr. Motta in the Intern/Mentor Gifted and Talented Program.
Acknowledgements
I truly enjoyed being a Brown University student this summer and I would like to thank our professor Dr. Carlos Aizenman, our TA Tina Voelcker, and my fellow classmates for all of their encouragement and assistance throughout this course. I hope you enjoy my final project!
